EN IA BRIGHT BAR

EN1A is a free-cutting mild steel grade, often supplied in “bright” (i.e., cold-finished / cold drawn / turned) bar form.  Bright bars are characterized by tighter tolerances, smoother surface finish, better straightness, and are often used where machining, precision, or “finished” appearance is required.
Another generic bright bar source lists diameter/shape range “3 mm to 400 mm; typical length 2-6 m” for bright bars.

Manufacture: Cold drawn, turned and polished, or ground depending on specification.

Chemical / Mechanical Properties (Approximate)

While I did not find a full, detailed chemical composition sheet for EN1A in these links, typical properties are suggested:

Free-cutting steels like EN1A have sulphur or lead added (in older versions) to improve machinability. The India site mentions “Free Cutting Steel” for EN1A.

Mechanical: From generic bright bar spec (not necessarily EN1A): For rectangular/square/hex bars (cold drawn) tensile strength minimum ~ 440 N/mm² (or MPa) and elongation ~8-20%.

Note: These are for general bright steel bar, not all exactly EN1A grade.

Surface finish and internal defect control: Standards require bright bars to be “sound and free from internal and surface defects” and decarburization control etc.
